The University of Wyoming’s Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center has been awarded LEED Gold certification for a variety of sustainable building features.

The university is home to Laramie’s only living roof, and is known for sustainable features including locally sourced building materials, native or adapted landscape vegetation, natural air ventilation, and building exhaust energy recovery.

The Berry Center is a 44,000 square foot building located in the northwest corner of campus, housing multiple groups and individuals that study animals, plants, and other organisms. The space contains laboratories, archive facilities, four classrooms, and office space for faculty and grad students.

“It’s fitting that a bunch of scientists interested in biodiversity conservation should work inside a green building, because sustainable building practices support our goal,” says Dorothy Tuthill, building administrator and associate director of the Biodiversity Institute. “We use the Berry Center as a teaching tool. We can show that green building features not only reduce human impacts on the natural world, but that the outdoor space, including our native-prairie green roof, can actually enhance biodiversity in an urban environment.”

A few notable sustainability features include racks to hold 140 bicycles, low-flow showers in changing facilities, low-emitting wood, paints, carpets, adhesives, and sealants, vast use of natural daylight, low-flow faucets and toilets, and the 3,600 square foot green roof.

Keiser University Golf School Students Attend 2011 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, FL

Port St. Lucie, FL (Vocus/PRWEB) February 22, 2011

Keiser University College of Golf students had yet another opportunity to be at the heart of the golf industry when they attended the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando this past January. New products such as golf clubs and training aids were shown on the show floor, and students of the golf school had the opportunity to try them out while having the invaluable opportunity to network with professionals in the golf industry.

The 58th PGA Merchandise Show hosted over 40,000 industry leaders, PGA professionals, and retailers from around the world. Product launches, educational seminars and a busy schedule reflected a rising momentum in the economy that students of golf schools such as Keiser University College of Golf can be optimistic about. Among the many networking opportunities for students were the 1,000 companies that attended. Of these, 225 appeared at the PGA Merchandise Show for the first time.

Dr. Eric Wilson, Executive Director of Golf Operations, said, “At Keiser University College of Golf, we directly prepare students for their future, and this involves more than just classroom education. The PGA Merchandise Show offered them the chance to thrive where the best of the golf industry assembles to experience innovation first-hand.”

Students of the Keiser University golf school also attended the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show Education Conference, which included over 65 seminars that explored issues, trends and developments in the golf business. Cutting edge issues such as social media, new technology and the environment were discussed, so education was definitely part of the agenda, if not on a more beneficial level of being current to today’s industry issues.

Also at the event were products that have yet to be released, as part of the Inventors’ Spotlight Pavilion, as well as a Career Fair. Students also had the chance to try out the latest golf fitness, training, and travel products and also see new apparel.

“In addition to exploring the new products and taking in a new experience, students were able to network with the best in the industry as well as build their own reputations. We are proud of them as individuals striving to succeed on the knowledge Keiser University has instilled in them,” added Wilson.

Full Sail University Is Proud To Welcome 13-Year-Old Author, Speaker, Activist and Teacher, Adora Svitak

Winter Park, FL (PRWEB) October 16, 2010

Full Sail University (, is proud to announce that on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, 13-year-old author, teacher, speaker, and activist Adora Svitak (, will provide a presentation entitled, Catch Us If You Can: Learning and Teaching in the 21st Century. The presentation addresses creativity, reciprocal learning, and various topics pertinent to education. Joining Adora on stage is her sister, Adrianna Svitak, an accomplished pianist and violinist, who will play featured selections.

Having been a published author since the age of seven, Adora has gained recognition for her work and has appeared in numerous web and print sources for publications The New York Times, The Huffington Post, and Mashable, while also being featured on television and radio outlets including CNN, NBC, ABC, Voice of America, and BBC. Adora’s additional past speaking engagements include the prestigious TEDTalks conference and the National Center for Family Literacy’s annual convention where she shared the spotlight with actor, James Earl Jones.

During the presentation at Full Sail, Adora, the writer, and her sister Adrianna, the musician, will share insight into their roles as excellent examples of different intelligences amongst learners. “Adora and Adrianna are inspirational examples who further support the educational philosophy that we embrace and promote daily here at Full Sail,” said Ani Gasti, Director of Faculty Development. “We are thrilled to have them share how they both maximize their potential by nurturing their unique talents and passions.”

“As we grow up in more technology-enriched environments, filled with laptops and smart phones, technology is not just becoming a part of our daily lives – it’s becoming a part of each and every one of us,” Adora remarked in anticipation of addressing the Full Sail community. “To try to teach ignoring technology is to ignore the progress that we have made over the last century. If school is preparation for the real world – a real world that is increasingly technology-driven – then to ignore technology is to become obsolete. I applaud Full Sail University for embracing and leveraging technology throughout their educational offerings.”
